As part of its climate change mitigation strategy, ISFALT prioritises the protection of the environment and ecological balance at every stage of production, supporting the transition towards sustainable resource use and a low-carbon economy, with the aim of contributing to a liveable and sustainable Istanbul.

The ISFALT Mahmutbey Plant, which had exceeded 36 years of operation and could no longer fully meet contemporary production requirements, was comprehensively modernised, and environmentally compatible technical infrastructure was established. The facility was upgraded using the latest technologies, achieving high energy efficiency and production capacity, reduced carbon emissions, full automation systems, and compliance with Asphalt 4.0 principles. The modernisation works resulted in a 20% increase in production efficiency, a 10% reduction in raw material consumption, and a 35% reduction in energy use.

The modernisation of the Mahmutbey Asphalt Plant also enhanced product quality and expanded the product range. In addition to conventional asphalt production, specialised and environmentally conscious asphalt types supporting resource efficiency are now produced, including recycled asphalt, Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA), mastic asphalt, porous asphalt, and coloured asphalt. Furthermore, ISFALT’s R&D-based Recycled Asphalt Production Technology, which enables reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) to be reintroduced into hot mix asphalt production, has been integrated into the facility, reducing the consumption of natural resources.

Operating at a capacity of 240 tonnes per hour and an annual production capacity exceeding 1 million tonnes, the Mahmutbey Plant is capable of supplying a significant share of asphalt demand on the European side of Istanbul. All ISFALT facilities are certified to ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 standards, demonstrating compliance with internationally recognised environmental and occupational health and safety management systems.
